'Three American Women in Benidorm' recover part of the city's history
The book 'Three American Women in Benidorm', by Vicente J. Sanjuan Ediciones, was presented last night in the City Hall Assembly Hall. Event that was attended by the mayor, Toni Pérez; the Councilor for Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer; other members of the corporation and a large public who have enjoyed a volume that represents the recovery, the first mayor stated, “part of our history.”
Precisely, Toni Pérez has been in charge of introducing the event, led by Vicente J. Sanjuan and Carlos Llorca Stratton, son of the American photographer, Patty Stratton, co-author of the printed images, along with her mother Kate W. Stratton, and her friend, Carol Baldwin.
In his speech, the mayor pointed out that we are facing “magnificent work” by the editor that “contains very specific moments retained for history and that are rescued today.” Toni Pérez emphasized the virtues of the printed book, without prejudice to the new types of digital editions and recognized that there are many of us who, like him, “enjoy touching paper.”
Benidorm City Council, through the Department of Historical Heritage, has had the opportunity to collaborate in the edition of the volume which, he said, “will be a fantastic gift for the coming days” of Christmas. Toni Pérez has also highlighted the “extraordinary prologue” by Francesc Llorca Ibi and the introduction by Carlos Llorca Stratton in a work that describes “the Benidorm that was”. A Benidorm, he has added that “we all must conserve.”
After the mayor, Sanjuan detailed the editing process, from the recovery of the graphic originals, their digital treatment, the design of the edition and, finally, the printing in which "great professionals" of the graphic arts have participated.
For her part, Llorca Stratton, elaborated on the “great human quality” of the artists: her mother, her grandmother and her friend. Three, photography professionals, authors of the 60 images selected for the edition. Three women join the protagonists of the snapshots.
The book 'Three American Women in Benidorm' can now be purchased in all bookstores in the city and has a price of 20 euros.
