Premio Isidro Cortina

The XII edition of 'Isidro Cortina Award' that the Rotary Club of Benidorm convenes annually will award 3,000 euros to the best Baccalaureate student of the Marina Baixa. It is an award that aims to "contribute from the Rotary spirit to encourage university preparation for young students in the region," as explained by the president of the Rotary Club, Juan Ángel Ferrer.

The award was presented today at the Mayor's Office with the mayor Toni Pérez, the president of the Rotary Club, Juan Ángel Ferrer, the vocal Alfredo Melgar, and the members David Climent and Didac Fuster. Precisely the mayor stressed that the award represents "the link and involvement of the Rotary Club with education in the region and bears the name of who was a great president."

The rules of the prize state that those students who have completed a Baccalaureate in a school in the Marina Baixa or, being registered in the region, have completed their Baccalaureate studies in any school in Spain, may take part in it. The student must accredit the highest mark of access to Selectividad considering the best grade in the calculation of the average grade of Baccalaureate plus the grade of the test in the general phase, plus the grades of the subjects passed in the voluntary phase for the year 2023.

Applications may be submitted at the headquarters of Benidorm Rotary Club until October 1. In any case, the bases can be found on the Rotary Club website.

Ferrer stressed that the entity "has a regional character" and recalled that "what we are trying to do is fulfill our motto this year, which is 'Create hope', for which all the directors of the approved centers in the region have been involved. ”. The president of the Rotary Club referred to the winning student last year, Blanca Pastor, from La Nucía, who obtained the award with an average grade of 11.84 points out of a maximum of 12. "It was the highest average grade of all editions” he pointed out.

For his part, Alfredo Melgar revealed that "there are not many prizes in Spain with this economic endowment for students." Finally, the mayor Toni Pérez wanted to "encourage all the students to continue in this line, to achieve their objectives and not to hesitate to apply for this edition of the award." Pérez also stressed that Rotary Club "will always have the accompaniment and support of its town hall" and made a call "so that everyone collaborates in the actions that they carry out continuously for the good of society."
