Public transport in Benidorm opens its doors to guide dogs
In a symbolic act held this morning at the gates of the City Council has presented a new awareness campaign on the access of guide dogs to public transport in the city. This initiative has been promoted by the Lions Club International of Benidorm with the collaboration of the councils of Mobility and Social Welfare.
The people in charge of these municipal areas, the councilors José Ramón González de Zárate and Ángela Llorca, have also participated in the event; the president of the local Lions Club, Marga Matarranz; the president of Radio Taxi Benidorm, José Antonio Gómez; the delegate of Llorente Bus, Pablo Delgado and a good number of partners of the altruistic entity that have accompanied Ángel Ros, and his guide dog, Faith, (both from Alicante), users of the municipal service. Precisely, the cost of the training of this copy of Labrador, has been totally paid by the Lions Club International. Ros recalled that in the province of Alicante there are more than fifteen users of guide dogs who can also use public transport on their trips through Benidorm.
González de Zárate has indicated that "people who need guide dogs have the right to enjoy public transport. Their pets have been perfectly trained and do not pose any discomfort for the rest of the users. " The councilor has emphasized the effort made by the municipal corporation to "adapt public services to people with reduced mobility" and recalled that this is one of the "basic points" that has been addressed in the drafting of the Strategy of Integral Sustainable Urban Development (EDUSI) that municipal technicians are currently finalizing.
From now on, vehicles that have adapted their platforms to blind people will wear stickers published by the Lions Club International of Benidorm: 224 taxis and 58 buses, all the fleets of Radio Taxi and Llorente Bus, have confirmed José Antonio Gómez and Pablo Delgado.
