Residents of 24 countries show their popular culture and gastronomy in l'Aigüera Park

The Neighborhood Council of Benidorm honors the teacher Dorina Apostol in the VII 'Day of Nationalities'

11 May 2019
El Consejo Vecinal de Benidorm homenajea a la docente Dorina Apostol en el VII ‘Día de las Nacionalidades’

l'Aigüera Park has hosted today the celebration of the seventh edition of the 'Day of nationalities', an initiative of the Neighborhood Council with the support of the Department of Citizen Participation, which every year shows the folklore, culture and gastronomy of many countries, and that on this occasion has honored the teacher Dorina Apostol, of Romanian nationality. Apostol has earned this recognition for its commitment to education and culture in Romania and Spain in Benidorm, where she lives and develops a great work through teaching. Upon her arrival in the city she created the Romanian association 'Ulpia Traiana', of which she is president and that over time has expanded its work throughout the province.

The institutional act has had the presence of the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez; the councillor of Participación Ciudadana, María Jesús Pinto; and several ediles of the corporation, who have accompanied the members of the Neighborhood Council with its first vice president, Teresa Garrido, at the head.

The mayor has put the accent on the vocation of "integration" and "welcome" of Benidorm, and has ensured that "regardless of the origin, in Benidorm we will always have all our house, only fulfilling one condition: love this city." In his speech, Toni Pérez has recognized the work of "those people who work for integration." A clear example of this work, he has indicated, is the one carried out by the association 'Ulpia Traiana', which since its constitution seeks to "make culture known" and "the reality" of Romania among the entire population and achieve the effective integration of her compatriots.

The honoree, who has received recognition from the Councilor for Citizen Participation, said that "I am a citizen of Benidorm and have vibrated with all the achievements and awards that the city has achieved." Apostol has stated that "Benidorm is integration", and added that "if a person has not integrated into Benidorm, he will not do it anywhere". He also thanked the City Council and the mayor Mª Jesús Pinto for the support provided for "any activity we have developed" from the association.

For her part, Teresa Garrido stressed that Benidorm concentrates more than 100 nationalities, and has affirmed that the city is "the eighth wonder of the world" and the place where "nobody feels like a stranger". During his speech, he thanked Dorina Apostol for "so many years of efforts", "to transmit our love for your country" and "to give a lesson of solidarity every day".

Folklore groups from Romania, Bolivia, Russia, Chile, Bulgaria, Paraguay, Moldova, Paz and Uruguay have participated in the seventh festival of the nationalities, as well as the students of the Benidorm Municipal Dance Conservatory.

The sample of crafts and gastronomy that each year is organized on the occasion of the Nationalities Day in the same Park of l'Aigüera has counted today, from 12.00, with the participation 24 countries and 34 exhibitors. In this edition three new countries have been released: India, Pakistan and Slovakia.
