Museu Boca del Calvari hosts the exhibition 'A Renaissance Esthete' on the figure of Admiral Julio Guillén Tato
Benidorm premiered yesterday evening, Wednesday, December 14, a new exhibition at Boca del Calvari Museum, a very graphic exhibition that, under the title 'Julio Guillén Tato, a Renaissance esthete' looks over the figure of the versatile admiral and it will be there until next February 19.
The inauguration was carried out by the mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, the councilor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, Ana Pellicer, the expert researcher on the figure of the admiral, Javier Vicedo Jover, and the curator of the exhibition, María José Guillén García, granddaughter by Julio Guillen Tato.
The mayor praised the figure of Guillén Tato "as passionate about the sea and our city where he spent his summer seasons as one more neighbor in his house on Santa Faz street and later in l' Almafrà".
Pérez also alluded to the figure of the admiral as director of the Naval Museum and member of the Royal Academy of Language and History, among other positions and occupations. Guillén Tato was, said Pérez, "one of the people most committed to the first development of Benidorm, working side by side with the mayor Pedro Zaragoza, undertaking enthusiastic and altruistic actions that favored advances and improvements at the level of services and spaces based on the years 50”.
In this regard, Ana Pellicer cited as an example in her speech "the admiral's mediation to create a new school group in Benidorm or the land that he ceded to the City Council to expand Plaça de la Senyoria, in whose design he was personally involved, as He also did the remodeling of Carreró dels Gats or Costera del Barco”.
The exhibition aims to "bring the local and visiting population closer to who Guillén Tato was, review his extensive professional career, remember his defense and contribution to the maintenance of roots and traditions, and address his close and prolific relationship with our city, which was endorsed with his designation as Adoptive Son”, according to Ana Pellicer.
"The admiral's footprint is still very present in Benidorm," said Pellicer, who also explained that the exhibition "is set out in a year with a special meaning, in which the 125th anniversary of his birth and the 50th of his death".
Pellicer also highlighted that "with this exhibition, we want to make the figure of the admiral known to the new generations" and emphasized the "prominent role" that they are going to play in this project "since a collaboration with the Baccalaureate students has been planned. Artistic of the IES Pere Mª Orts i Bosch that will complement the exhibition”.
