During the period of public exposure, the document has not received allegations

The municipal budget of 2020 enters into force

29 January 2020
Entra en vigor el presupuesto municipal de 2020

With final approval, investments and registered grants are unlocked

The municipal budget of Benidorm City Council for the year 2020 has entered into force today, after during the period of public exposure no allegations to the document have been received, as reported by the Councilor for Finance, Aida García Mayor. The Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) has published today the final approval of the municipal accounts for this year that collect income amounting to 103,469,011.64 euros and places the expenses at 102,337,107.66 euros.

García Mayor explained that "with the final approval of the budget we can begin to execute the investments planned for this year, which amount to 11.3 million euros, of which 6.9 will be fully financed with municipal resources." The councillor recalled that within the investments, is the creation of the Aula del Mar (385,385 euros), fourth museum space in Benidorm; the execution of the second phase of Séquia Mare Park (300,000 euros); or the enhancement of the historical heritage with the remodeling of Torre de Morales (207,536.37 euros, of which 124,521.85 euros are municipal contribution), improving accessibility to the site of El Tossal de La Cala (150,000 euros ), and the intervention in l'Hort de Colon (105,000 euros).

Also included in the 2020 budget is the reform of Glorieta Carrasco (218,250 euros); as well as the remodeling of Polop Street (500,000), “work that has already been awarded and will begin shortly now that the budget is finally approved”.

She also clarified that "many of the investments included in the budget will grow throughout the year, as soon as we settle the Adjustment Plan in advance, something that will occur during the first quarter of the year." "Thus," she added, "the positive remainder of the Treasury obtained will be allocated, as allowed by law, to financially sustainable works such as the renovation of the Poniente catwalk or the catenary of the Paseo de Levante, the paving of school zones, the arrangement of rural roads and the 2020 Asphalt Plan ”.

The holder of the Treasury has indicated that "in addition to the investments, the final approval of the budget also allows us to unlock and start paying the nominative subsidies included in the budget."

García Mayor recalled that the 2020 budget complies with the spending rule and the economic balance, and has detailed that, with respect to the 2019 budget, the 2020 budget includes a reduction of the expenses chapter of 4.7% and 4.5 % in revenue. Among the reasons that justify the reduction of income is the reduction of transfers from other public administrations; as well as the financial expenses that the City Council has to assume “thanks to the early amortization of the loans with higher financial costs” made throughout 2019, among which the 11 million euros paid out of the Adjustment Plan stand out.
