The City Council improves the accessibility of Poniente beach
The Department of Beaches of Benidorm City Council is acting in three accesses to Poniente beach to make them fully accessible, specifically at two points on Vicente Llorca Alós Avenue and on Paseo de Colón in the area closest to the port.
The mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Beaches, Mónica Gómez, have explained that “in the area of Paseo de Tamarindos the original configuration of access to the beach is by stairs that follow the balustrade's aesthetics. Progressively we have been eliminating the stairs in several of these accesses and replacing them with ramps, always maintaining the balustrade; and now we act making accessible the platform of walk with the existing ramps ”.
With regard to the performance in Paseo de Colón, the mayor has clarified that “with the adequacy of the ramp we also comply with a suggestion of improvement that was transferred to us in the quality audit of beaches of 2019”. In this regard, the mayor recalled that "recently, within the integral remodeling of Elche Park, we have acted on the access to the beach along the entire stretch where all the ramps and stairs have been renovated."
“Our goal is to achieve universal accessibility throughout the city, a goal that includes our main tourist resource, the beaches, which are a national and international reference for their adapted services; and that they are also a good example of the relevance of accessibility, one of the axes with which Benidorm has achieved its certification as the world's first Smart Tourist Destination (DTI) ”, said Pérez.
