There are already 1,215 women who have lost their lives due to gender violence in Spain since 2003

Minute of silence in Benidorm for the woman murdered by her partner in Barcelona

01 August 2023
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

This noon, with a minute of silence in front of the main door of Benidorm City Hall, the Municipal Corporation has once again shown its condemnation and rejection of sexist violence after the confirmation of a new case in Barcelona, perpetrated last Sunday morning.

On this occasion, the victim is a 29-year-old woman who was allegedly murdered by her partner, 39, in Barcelona. The man has been arrested and is at the disposal of justice. So far this year 31 women have lost their lives for this cause in our country and 33 minors have been orphaned.

With this, there are already 1,215 women murdered by sexist violence in Spain since 2003. The number could increase if the two cases that are currently under investigation are confirmed.

The Department of Equality reiterates once again that the City Council has specialized personnel in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, he insists that the victims have the free telephone number 016 against gender violence, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile phone call log, a service that is open 24 hours a day. , seven days a week and in 52 languages.
