La Torreta hosts a Spanish-English conversation session every Saturday in March to improve skills in both languages

La Torreta Social Center will host in March the '1st Tandem Days of Spanish-English Conversation', organized by the insurance brokerage Polifani with the collaboration of the Department of European Residents and will be held every Saturday of March from 11.00 to 12.00 This has been announced today by the councilor of the area, Ana Pellicer, along with the manager of Polifani, Marta del Rey, and Sophie Good, director of the international department of the firm.

Pellicer has informed that these days "are free and voluntary" and "are aimed at bringing in relation to British and Spanish natives to practice conversation in both languages ​​to improve their skills in the use of languages." “A skill - she has deepened - that is very important in any place but especially in a tourist city like Benidorm”.

The councillor stressed that “we are convinced that this type of initiative can also promote cultural exchange and integration, in this case mainly from the British community; an objective that is intimately linked to the policies and strategic lines of the Department of Foreign Residents ”. Therefore, she added, "we do not hesitate to support this initiative that Polifani moved us, as we did in 2018 when we were asked to participate in the 1st Pre-Brexit Health Forum."

In addition to encouraging participation in this initiative, Pellicer advanced that “these Tandem Days will serve as a pilot experience to test the interest and demand for this type of initiatives among different groups and communities of foreigners in Benidorm, with the intention of extend it also to other languages ​​”.

For its part, the Polifani manager explained that “we have realized that there are foreign residents in Benidorm who are learning Spanish and have no opportunity to practice the language because they lack the link with the Spanish community; while in general Spanish people, due to the educational system, have a high level of grammar but they are not fluent in conversation, something increasingly important at work level. ”

With that starting point, she pointed out, these 1st Tandem Days are born, aimed at natives “but in which people of other nationalities who want to practice the language can also participate”; and underlined the suitability of them being developed at La Torreta Social Center, since “most of the British people” reside in Rincón de Loix area and surrounding campsites.
