The County Council finances more than 85% of the action, which includes renovating water and lighting infrastructure, and the pavement, which has been chosen by residents and merchants
The City Council informs residents of Polop Street about the calendar of the work, which starts next week
The Councilor for Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, has met today with fifty residents, communities of owners and owners of Polop Street establishments to transfer the work schedule of the "integral remodeling" of this road, "long claimed. ” The councillor pointed out that the term of execution of the work "is four months", so predictably if there are no setbacks "it will be over for the summer." It is expected that the diversion of services will begin next week and the bulk of the work will start in about ten days.
De Zárate recalled that this remodeling is “integral”, since “we are going to act in the subsoil and on the surface of this road”. Specifically, "we will renovate the entire network of drinking water, rainwater and sewerage, and prepare the street for the future installation of new gas or telecommunications services." The surface is also going to be placed ", a new pavement chosen by the neighbors and street merchants from about ten samples that we have moved." It is also going to place furniture and trees similar to Gambo or El Pino streets; and it will be equipped with Wi-Fi network.
The councillor thanked the Provincial Council of Alicante "to support and subsidize more than 85% of the cost of this work", which stands at around 143,000 euros.
De Zárate reported that the development of this work is “complex” since “the street cannot be opened only once to renew and install all services, since all the time pedestrians have to be allowed access to their buildings, six concretely that there are on this street".
The Works Manager recalled that with this action “the City Council collects the request made for a long time by the residents of this street, very close to the TRAM station through which hundreds of passengers pass by,” and that it is also located next to one of the main entrances to Benidorm: Beniardá Avenue. "We talked - he added - a pedestrian street with very dangered pavement and in which the water infrastructure of both sewage and rainwater are in very bad condition or are insufficient, which causes for example small floods when it rains with some intensity" .
"It is, therefore, an important improvement in an important neighborhood such as Colonia Madrid," he added.
