The gym of Palau d'Esports opens its doors on Monday, Day 7

04 November 2016
El gimnasio del Palau d’Esports reabre sus puertas el lunes, día 7

Sports clubs are already taking up their activities in the pool and soon agreements with each of them will be signed. Specialists value at 150,000 euros the investment to make next year in repairs and works

The gym of Palau d'Esports opens this Monday, November 7, from 09.00 hours and until 21.00 hours, from Monday to Friday, and will be attended by sports monitors. So it was decided at the meeting of the Technical Commission of Palau in which it has been valued how the pool has worked on the first two days after its reopening, and in which requests for use of these facilities made by clubs and autonomous have been analyzed. A meeting attended by the councillor for Sports, Ana Pellicer; local government spokesman José Ramón González de Zárate; and technical departments: Sports, Health, Engineering, Human Resources, Secretary and Treasurer; and then the corporation Board of Spokesmen was informed. Pellicer reported that in the first two days of pool activity "incidents have been minimal", although the chlorination and control of water temperature is being done manually after missing the chlorinator machine. In the health aspect, the analytical test confirms that all parameters are correct. The head of Sports has indicated that sports clubs are already taking up their activity in the pool at times that were assigned in the previous stage of management. They have been demanded to present insurance, a document of their registration in the Register of Associations of Benidorm and provide for each activity a lifeguard entitled. The Technical Commission has given the green light to ten requests for use of the pool studied by clubs and associations, and is expected to be signed soon with each of them "agreements to promote sport, integration and health" in which are regulated in detail the conditions of use. At the moment, "these clubs are responsible for swimming lessons, so that sports monitors that in principle had been assigned to the pool serve in the gym." Pellicer clarified that the gym recovers its normal activity and the possible offer of courses will be determined in the coming weeks "when we have all the information about the number of users." The councilwoman advanced in principle these courses, or part of the them, will be taught by freelances, many of them have submitted applications to resume the activity that provided during the previous management. Such requests will be addressed in terms of demand and "be formalized through contracts with the City Hall." In addition to assessing applications from clubs and freelances, the Technical Commission has also served "requests that have been received from users who request to change the opening hours of the pool from 07.00 instead of opening at 08.00." Pellicer explained that currently is not possible this because it is during this time when the city staff performs the maintenance of the pool. However, it will occur when this work is taken by an external company.

Investment in works

During the meeting it was also addressed the disbursement that the City Hall will have to do in repair works to update the facilities, where technicians have found a number of deficiencies. "In the budget for 2017 a specific item of 150,000 euros will be included for investments in the Palau, and from now until the end of the year there will be another 30,000 euros for the most urgent actions" Pellicer indicated.

Contract settlement and amendment of the ordinance;

The Technical Committee also agreed to "begin the process to settle the contract with the previous concessionaire and to implement as soon as possible endorsement of the company, amounting to 50,000 euros". In addition it has been determined that it is necessary to amend the tax ordinance number 30 which regulates, among other things, the use and provision of services in the Palau.
