Benidorm eliminates architectural barriers in Ondulada street and adjacent streets, and creates safe pedestrian routes

Benidorm elimina las barreras arquitectónicas de la calle Ondulada y adyacentes, y crea itinerarios peatonales seguros

It is a work proposed by the Neighborhood Council and has been implemented with the remnants of the Accessibility Plan


Benidorm City Council has eliminated the architectural barriers that still existed in Ondulada street and adjacent streets and they prevented people with disabilities make safe pedestrian routes in the neighborhood. This action was made at the request of the residents of the area and was run with the improvements offered by the company awarded the works of the Accessibility Plan. The mayor Toni Pérez has checked the result of this action in the streets Ondulada, Santa Cristina, San Marcos and Santo Tomás accompanied by the councilman of Works, José Ramón González de Zárate; and the councilwoman of Social Welfare, Angela Llorca. The mayor explained that "through performing a dozen recesses and lugs a safe pedestrian route has been created in these streets, improving the mobility of pedestrians and ending situations of risk for people with reduced mobility."It is going to be create three new crosswalks to enhance pedestrian safety, and is expected that within approximately two weeks bollards are placed in the lugs that prevent vehicles parking in these spots but they do not prevent the passage of wheelchairs or prams. The Accessibility Plan is endowed with 225,000 euros and includes eight actions proposed by the Neighborhood Council and many others indicated by municipal technicians. Specifically, it was improved pedestrian safety in school routes of Els Tolls; Ruzafa, Capitán Cortes, Austria and Inglaterra streets and at the intersections of Foietes Avenue with Serrano and Macarena; and improved the crossing known as El Estanquet. In addition, it has also been made works in the area of ​Maravall and Urano streets; and soon there will be actions in Murtal, Puerto Rico, Benissa and Marina Baixa avenues; Santander and Alfaz del Pi streets; and Paseo de Colón. It is also planned to create a pedestrian route between Ibiza and Emilio Romero streets; recovering the stairs of El Torrejó; and acting in Derramador Avenue and Bernat de Sarrià; and at the entrances to parking L'Aigüera.
