The Environment and the Red Cross clean up invasive species in Serra Gelada Natural Park
The Environment Department of the Red Cross and the Department of the Environment of Benidorm City Council held a day of cleaning and eradication of invasive exotic species in the local flora last Sunday, specifically in the Serra Gelada Natural Park.
Six Red Cross volunteers and the municipal rural guard carried out this first intervention from nine in the morning until noon, which served as a previous experience for subsequent actions that will be carried out.
The work developed consisted of the eradication of the species 'pennisetum setaceum' for which a specific technique is required to prevent it from continuing to reproduce. The action was carried out at the entrance to the quarry and in areas close to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
The Councilor for Environment, Mónica Gómez, came to supervise the work and highlighted the "municipal commitment to preserving the natural park by protecting the native flora from invasive species with conferences like this, which will be complemented with others that will be held shortly".
