El Calvari 40th Cross stars this weekend a new test of 'running'
Benidorm continues this Sunday the 2019 season of 'running', after Vueling Benidorm Half and the I Cross Doble amor, with the celebration of one of the longest-running events in the Valencian Community, El Calvari Cross, which this year celebrates its edition number 40, organized jointly by the Department of Sports, Festa El Calvari, Benidorm Athletics Club and Brotons Group.
The race will take place this Sunday, March 10, and will have two categories: children and adults. The race in absolute category will be at 10.00 from Martínez Alejos street, while the students will start at 11.30.
This new edition of the race has been presented by the Councilor for Sports, Arturo Cabrillo; by the organizer of the race José Brotons, by the president and vice president of Festa El Calvari Festival, Alfonso Andrés and Francisco Mas; and by Manolo Martínez, president of Athletics Club.
Arturo Cabrillo explained that the race consists of three distances, one of 8,000 meters, which will be covered a circuit that will run through El Calvari neighborhood and nearby streets. Thus, the race will have Martinez Alejos street as the starting point and will continue through Alcoy, Europa, Mediterráneo, Castellón, Madrid, Alcoy, Virgen del Sufragio, Canalejas, Carmela Martínez, Alameda, La Palma and Martínez Alejos, another 1000 meters for the categories of youth, infantil and cadet, and another of 650 meters for benjamin category.
The mayor recalled that it is "a circuit and a very affordable distance for the 'amateur' runners who are starting in the world of 'running'", and that every runner must have in his record, have played a race as important as this Cross.
Registration can be made until Thursday at 23.59 hours through the web www.grupobrotons.es, although the same day of the race will allow a quota of inscriptions by category.
The president of the El Calvari Festa has thanked all the sponsors of the event for their collaboration, and indicated that there will be trophies for the top three finishers and medals for the children's categories.
In addition, Alfonso Andrés has announced that Diego Cano Enguera prizes will be awarded for this event, which are annually awarded to a festive entity and to an athlete or sports entity "who have excelled the previous year or because of their career". Some awards that in their 22nd anniversary will be for the swimmer Miguel Bou Bernabeu and for Jaime Pérez Llorens 'El Llugueret' for their devotion to the Major Festivities in which each year he participates as a singer of traditional songs.
