Culture and La Barqueta announce the XX School Drawing and Painting Contest
In its twenty years of history, 32,941 drawings have been taken part in the Contest
The Cultural and Recreational Association 'La Barqueta', with the collaboration of the Department of Culture, has presented the twentieth edition of its School Drawing and Painting Contest in which all Benidorm primary school students can participate. This has announced this morning by the councilor for the department, Jaime Jesús Pérez, together with the president of the entity, Francisco Llorens, 'Paco Rosera' and the member of its board of directors, Jaime Lloret.
Jaime Jesús Pérez pointed out that the central theme of the Contest is "the Finding" of the Mare de Déu del Sofratge which, he recalled, is classified as a "Festival of Regional Tourist Interest". Each child will be able to present a work in his study center and he will "select ten for each cycle" that will be sent to the organization "from February 20 to 24."
The Councilor for Culture thanked 'La Barqueta' for the work it does throughout the year organizing exhibitions and concerts and "for keeping our history and traditions alive" so that residents and tourists "get to know them", as in this case through painting.
Jaime Jesús Pérez also valued the "interesting archival work" done by the association that allowed "two months ago an exhibition with the winners of every year" that could be seen in the Casa del Fester.
For his part, Jaime Lloret referred to the advertising poster, the work of the girl Ana Chernova, from CEIP Miguel Hernández, in which a face shows in one of its eyes the staging of the Finding, and in another, the virgin "with the emotion that it entails, crying”.
Lloret influenced the great participation of students in the contest, which in 20 years has gathered "32,941 different drawings" and that, for this edition, "we hope" that around 1,900 children contribute their work, although he explained that, in other years “we reached 2,200”.
The involvement of schools in the contest is evident. "Some schools - Lloret pointed out - compete to see which presents the most drawings", which is also rewarded by 'La Barqueta'.
After the delivery of the originals, specialists, professors, and delegates of Culture and La Barqueta', will select the originals that will be exhibited in March and that will be voted on by the jury at La Casa del Fester 'Diego Cano Enguera'. The exhibition will coincide with the anniversary of the Finding which is commemorated on March 16 and the following day, the 17th, the awards ceremony will take place to the authors of the winning works in the Assembly Hall of the Town Hall.
