The soprano Marlene Aquino accompanied the orchestra on the stage of the cultural center

Benidorm opens 2023 with a full house at the New Year's concert by UM Symphony Orchestra

02 January 2023
Concierto Año Nuevo

Last night Benidorm premiered 2023 with a full house in the auditorium of the cultural center on the occasion of the New Year's concert offered by Unión Musical Symphony Orchestra, which was accompanied by soprano Marlene Aquino. A concert in which the Symphony Orchestra was directed by Rafa Gómez and attended by, among others, the mayor, Toni Pérez, and the Councilor for Culture, Jaime Jesús Pérez.

'Obertura La Gazza Ladra' by Gioachino Rossini was the opening piece of the concert, in which pieces by some of the best-known composers of the last two centuries were also heard, part of which also sounded in the voice of Marlene Aquino. 'Il bacio' by Luigo Arditi, 'Canción de La Ninfa (The Merry Widow)' by Franz Lehár and 'El vals del emperador' by Johann Strauss Jr. completed the first part of the recital.

The second half of the concert, the Symphony Orchestra performed 'Je veus vivre (Romeo and Juliet)' by Charles Gounod, 'Waltz from the ballet Sleeping Beauty' by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, 'Carceleras (The daughters of Zebedee) by the Spanish Ruperto Chapí, 'La canción de la Paloma' from the zarzuela 'El barberillo de Lavapiés' and 'El Danubio azul' by Johann Strauss Jr.

Off the program, the group under the baton of Rafa Gómez performed the piece 'I could have danced all night' from the musical 'My fair lady'. The UM Symphony Orchestra closed the New Year's concert in true Viennese style with 'The Radetzky March', a composition that the audience enthusiastically clapped.
