The City Council finalizes the improvements in Avenida Marina Baixa with the creation of an access roundabout from Avenida Villajoyosa
Benidorm City Council is finalizing the creation of a roundabout at the confluence of Villajoyosa avenue with Marina Baixa avenue, thus addressing a historical claim from the residents of the area. This new roundabout will give access to the neighborhood and will improve road safety and mobility in the area and complements the works carried out in recent months on Marina Baixa and Alta avenues.
The mayor Toni Pérez and the Councilor for Public Urban Scene, José Ramón González de Zárate, visited the works this morning to verify that they continue with the established deadlines and that they will be finished on December 12, the date on which the asphalting of the zone.
Pérez has pointed out that the new roundabout "responds to a long-standing neighborhood demand to which we have wanted to respond because it also fits within our commitment to accessibility and improved mobility."
The works in Marina Alta ended in July of this year and consisted of renovating the area's landscape and drinking water pipes, with a total investment of 514,188 euros.
However, in Marina Baixa it was necessary to expand the performance. Although what was initially planned was the renovation of the sidewalks on this road, as well as the replacement of the drinking water pipe because it is a fiber cement pipe that is more than 30 years old, the mayor has specified that "the episodes of strong The rains confirmed the insufficiency of the drainage system, which affected the entrance to schools and some neighboring communities. For this reason, it was decided to improve the conductions in order to put an end to these episodes every time there is heavy rainfall.
Thus, the integration of the same in the network of existing services was completed with the renewal of part of them and in the urban fabric. However, as has been said, the City Council took the opportunity to echo the neighborhood request to build a roundabout to facilitate access from Avenida Villajoyosa.
Having to modify the scope of the action, is divided into three different actions. On the one hand, the renovation of the drinking water and sewerage infrastructures in Marina Baixa (375,421.84 euros), on the other similar action on Avenida Puerto Rico (177,908.60 euros) and finally the renovation of the water infrastructures drinking and sewerage at the confluence of Marina Baixa with Villajoyosa avenue and Aigües street (328,840.72 euros). All of these actions were approved on November 7 and financed by Hidraqua from the Investment Fund.
In this way, with the creation of the roundabout, public lighting has also been changed through the Renewal and Energy Efficiency Plan, renewing both the columns and the luminaires, and changing the existing ones for more energy-efficient LED lamps.
The total participation of the City Council in these actions amounts to 1,396,360 euros.
