This is the eleventh victim murdered due to gender violence so far this year
The City Council condemns the sexist crime committed against a 35-year-old woman in La Rioja

Benidorm City Council called a silent demonstration today to condemn the latest gender-based crime confirmed by the Government Delegation against Gender Violence in our country. The victim is a 35-year-old woman who was allegedly murdered by her partner on Friday, April 25, in a municipality in La Rioja where they had both recently moved. Three days later, the murder was confirmed to be within the scope of gender-based violence.
The silent demonstration took place at noon outside Benidorm City Hall and was led by Benidorm's First Deputy Mayor, Ana Pellicer, along with the Councillor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, and other members of the local council.
The woman was killed with a knife, allegedly by her partner, who had no prior complaints of gender-based violence. After the crime, he tried to flee, but eventually confessed and was arrested.
With the confirmation of this case, the number of women murdered by their partners or ex-partners so far this year has risen to eleven, reaching 1,305 victims since 2003, when this data began to be collected.
The Department of Equality reminds us that Benidorm City Council has staff specialised in violence against women to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. They also reiterate that victims can access the free 016 hotline, which leaves no trace on their phone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from their cell phone call logs. This service is available 24 hours a day, every day of the year, and in 52 languages.
Similarly, in an emergency, you can call 112 or the emergency numbers of the National Police (091) and the Civil Guard (062). If a call is not possible and a dangerous situation arises, the ALERTCOPS app can be used, which will send an alert signal with geolocation to the police. All of these assistance methods can be activated by the victim, as well as by anyone who knows or suspects a case of gender-based violence. It is a duty of all society.
