Casa de Andalucía in Benidorm celebrates Corpus Christi pilgrimage dedicated to the Virgen del Rocío
At 6:30 p.m., a rociera mass in the Church of La Almudena brought together the Andalusian colony of Benidorm and supporters to subsequently participate in the traditional Corpus Christi Pilgrimage that, this year, to avoid coinciding with the Municipal Elections and other acts, has had to be moved to the end of June.
The Casa de Andalucía de Benidorm, in collaboration with the Department of Fiestas, thus begins a long weekend of homage to the Queen of the Marshes, the Virgen del Rocío, who has a large number of faithful in the city.
The Acting Mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the Councilor for Fiestas, Mariló Cebreros, along with a large representation of the municipal corporation, participated in the act. The regional deputy, José Ramón González de Zárate, also attended.
In the convocation of the Casa de Andalucía, its president, Raúl González; their queens, Elia Romero and Maira Jiménez, and also the presence of the Major and Child queens of the Festes Majors Patronals, Angélica Morenilla, and Daniela Talavera; the president of the Commission, Vicente Solaz; and that of the Penyes Association 'Verge del Sofratge', Ramón Cano.
After the offering of flowers, the salves, the words of the queens of the House of Andalusia, the religious ceremony, and at around 8:00 p.m., the White Dove, on the shoulders of the bearers of the House of Andalusia, left the Almudena, followed by hundreds of people to take a tour that would take her to the historic center of the city.
The pilgrimage followed an itinerary along Beniardà Avenue, El Cruce, Tomás Ortuño, Ruzafa Street, Paseo de la Carretera, and again Tomás de Ortuño, where, next to l'Hort de Colón, a snack awaited. Then, it would continue until it reached Mercasa where, a rociera tent, will house the image of the Virgen del Rocío until it returns to Almudena on Sunday.
