Benidorm will improve accessibility in several streets of the Madrid neighborhood with the implementation of roads with no sidewalks

14 June 2023
Colonia Madrid barrio de Benidorm

The Benidorm City Council, through the Department of Public Space, and within the works contemplated in the 'Improving Accessibility 2022' project, will begin in the coming days an action to improve accessibility and implementation of the single platform in several streets of the Madrid neighborhood. Some works that will begin imminently and must be completed during the summer since they are in an area with little influx of people in high season.

Another reason, moreover, is that these are streets that are located on the so-called 'Safe route to school', so not interrupting the work in summer would mean that they have finished before the start of the school year.

The acting mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, and the also acting councilor for Public Space, José Ramón González de Zárate, have visited this morning the streets where they are going to act, accompanied by municipal technicians, to find out the details of the acting.

The intervention will last for a maximum of one month and will affect streets such as Abad de Tormes, Virgen de la Paloma, Espejo, and La Luna. Thus, the road with no sidewalks and with stamped concrete will be implemented in Abad de Tormes, while in La Luna and Virgen de la Paloma, a safe and accessible itinerary will be established. There will also be improvements in accesses in La Luna and Espejo streets.

Toni Pérez highlighted this action that its objective is to "provide access to these streets and improve the pedestrian safety of schoolchildren and their companions by creating safe itineraries".

The mayor highlighted that the 'Improving Accessibility 2022' project is achieving "that Benidorm becomes an accessible city for all in which the pedestrian is gaining more and more ground from the car, since more than 70% of the journeys They are done on foot.
