Benidorm City Council, together with the Local Police and the beach concessionaire, has prepared a special presence on the beaches for the night of San Juan composed of about 60 people including police officers and cleaning, rescue, and lifeguard services and healthcare. This morning the coordination meeting was held, in which the extraordinary services that will operate on the beaches on the night of next Sunday, June 23, have been defined.

The Councilor for Beaches, Mónica Gómez, chaired the meeting in which the councillors of Citizen Security and Road Cleaning, Jesús Carrobles and Luis Navarro, also participated; the chief of the Local Police; staff from the Beaches and Environment departments; and those responsible for the municipal Technical Services, concessionaire company and Civil Protection, who, like every year, will collaborate on this device.

Gómez has pointed out that “this special device is very similar to that of previous years and sized to the needs that usually occur in San Juan, an event in which the occupancy of our sandy areas is usually very high since both residents and tourists come to the event. beach to participate in this tradition and thus experience the shortest and most magical night of the year.”

The councillor recalled that "as is the usual rule, and as established by the municipal ordinance, it is not allowed to access the beach with glass containers, nor to make bonfires or use the so-called 'flying lanterns'."

The special security presence will be made up of 12 members of the Local Police on the beach, including agents and commanders, as well as a zodiac from the maritime service with two other agents. The Air Unit of the Local Police will also participate in the device.

The lifeguard and rescue service, in turn, will operate with extended and uninterrupted hours until 2:00 a.m. There will be three ambulances with medical personnel on the three beaches (Bilbao Avenue, Paseo de Colón and Vicente Llorca Alós with Aigües Street), to which will be added the rescue boat and three aid stations (one in Levante and two in Poniente Levante beach will be staffed by 4 lifeguards, Poniente will have another 4 and there will be one in Mal Pas. More than twenty lifeguards and health care personnel are distributed across the three beaches.

During the night of San Juan, the hours of the accessible beach point in Elche Park will be extended, which will be operational from 9:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., making bathing easier for people with mobility problems.

The public toilets located near the beaches and the footbaths will be operational until 3:00 a.m.

Regarding the cleaning of the beaches, from 9:00 p.m. there will be personnel carrying out manual cleaning tasks and distributing garbage bags among the groups of people who are on the beach. In addition, at 2:30 a.m. on the 24th, cleaning with a sieve will begin. More than 20 people will make up the cleaning service during the evening of San Juan.

Gómez has asked for “collaboration” from people who go to the beaches of Benidorm during the night of San Juan to “facilitate that the cleaning service on the 24th is prolonged as little as possible and our sandy beaches are in perfect condition to be used on Monday from first thing in the morning.”
