La celebración coincide con el Año Jubilar del 600 aniversario de la muerte del patrón de la ciudad y Reino de Valencia
Benidorm will be stage for the first time of the performance of a 'Milacre de Sant Vicent'
On the occasion of the celebration of the 600th anniversary of the death of Sant Vicent Ferrer that will be fulfilled in 2019 and also the Jubilee Year granted by the Holy See to the dioceses of Valencia, Orihuela-Alicante, Segorbe-Castellón and Tortosa, Benidorm will be the scene , for the first time, of a representation his 'milacres' that are traditionally staged in the city of Valencia, on the so-called 'altars de Sant Vicent'.
The Councilor for Culture, Ana Pellicer; together with the secretary of the Section of Language and Literature of Valencian of the Real Acadèmia de Cultura Valenciana (RACV), Vicent Ramon Calatayud; the academic and president of the Cavallers Jurats de Sant Vicent, José Francisco Ballester; and the parish priest of the Parochial Church of Sant Jaume and Santa Anna, Juan Antonio González, presented the event that will be enjoyed in the parish on Saturday, April 14, at 8:00 p.m.
"The 'milacres de Sant Vicent Ferrer' - Pellicer has said, are children's theatrical representations about the life and miracles of the saint that are staged in the street" and whose main motive is "the life and miracles of the saint", a tradition that dates back to the 15th century. Pellicer recalled that the 'altars' "are decorated with religious themes" and that they are "an event and one of the most significant manifestations of Valencian theater".
The initiative has emerged "from a proposal of the RACV and the Cavallers Jurats de Sant Vicent", said Pellicer and is justified even more in our city because the saint "is the main patron of the Valencian Community" and the ' milacres' have been "declared a Property of Intangible Cultural Interest by the Consell de la Generalitat". Pellicer has also highlighted the personality of Sant Vicent Ferrer, who has said that "for many the most universal Valencian has ever existed" that "is recognized as the greatest source of miracles of the Church and one of the intellectual theologians, politicians and most influential philosophers of his time. "
The miracle of Benidorm
For his part, Vicent Ramon Calatayud has compared the miracles of the saint with "the miracle of Benidorm" because the city has known "put your faith in what you have, which is an extraordinary enclave and has opened the arms to the whole world", like Sant Vicent that "with his missionary spirit he toured all of Europe and made himself understood all over the world only in Latin and in Valencian", just like Benidorm who makes himself known to everyone, speak the language they speak.
José Francisco Ballester has also highlighted the city's "very positive" attitude towards the Vincentian year and has emphasized the figure of the saint recognized as "of the first order of the late medieval and early Renaissance" and "international relief" from the historical and academic point of view.
Finally, Juan Antonio González recalled that in the parish there are available for users and faithful some leaflets published on the occasion of the commemoration and "with the requirements to win the jubilee year".
