The department of Historical Heritage has published the catalog of the exhibition 'The legacy of our seamen: Benidorm and the Merchant Marine', which for four months has been exhibited at Boca Calvari Museum and closed at the beginning of January with more than 11,000 visitors . The Assembly Hall of the City Hall was last night the space chosen for this presentation, which involved the mayor, Toni Pérez, the curators of the exhibition Eusebi Chiner, César Gospel and Antonio Couto; and Juan Alcaraz, inspector of the Maritime Captaincy of Alicante; and attended by the councilor of Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer; Several members of the corporation and dozens of residents of Benidorm.

The catalog, coordinated by the curators of the exhibition, collects all the documentation collected by them over two years, as well as photographs with many details of the exhibition and the explanatory panels of it. The catalog is completed by collaborations made by the curators themselves and by some of the neighbors who contributed to the exhibition by temporarily transferring to the City Council part of the objects and / or documents that were exhibited in the Boca Calvari showcases. Some articles that review the history of nautical and Merchant Marine, and in which have also been expressed in writing experiences or family stories linked to the sea and the companies in which they worked for generations hundreds of Benidorm people .

The mayor highlighted the "admirable, dignified and intense work" that resulted first in the exhibition 'The legacy of our sailors: Benidorm and the Merchant Navy' and now this catalog, which is "a jewel". It has also influenced that both exhibition and catalog, "have allowed us to recover and honor a fundamental moment of our history" and, through visits planned for schoolchildren, "offer it to our young people" so that they "learn our past, in the that sustains our present and our future. "

Pérez recalled that these visits for school children have been made by staff trained in 'Dynamization of free time activities for children and youth' program 'T'Avalem', promoted by the department of Employment and Local Development and the Generalitat.
