Benidorm observes a minute of silence in rejection of the last three victims of male violence in Lleida and Valladolid

24 January 2023
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

Benidorm City Council has shown today its rejection and condemnation of the latest crimes of sexist violence that occurred in Lleida and Valladolid, where two women and a minor were murdered, with a silent rally in the square of SS MM Los Reyes de España. The first deputy mayor, Ana Pellicer, and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, together with members of the municipal corporation, led the silent rally.

The first murder took place in Lleida where a 38-year-old woman was murdered by her 44-year-old partner on January 18. The victim had five minor children from another relationship and there were no previous complaints of gender violence against him.

The other two victims were murdered in Valladolid yesterday, January 23. A 45-year-old woman and her eight-year-old daughter were killed by the partner of her 44-year-old, who later attempted suicide. In this case, there were no previous complaints against the aggressor either.

With the confirmation of these three cases, the number of women murdered by sexist violence in Spain rises to six so far this year and 1,188 since 2003. The number of minors orphaned by gender violence in Spain has already risen to 11 so far this year and 388 since 2013. Similarly, the number of minors murdered by gender violence in Spain is one this year and 49 since 2013.

The Department of Equality reiterates its commitment to women and its commitment to the eradication of violence against them. For this reason, it makes its municipal services available to those who need them and reminds us of the convenience of using the free telephone against gender violence, 016, which answers in 52 languages 365 days a year and leaves no trace on the telephone bill, if It is well recommended to delete it from the call log after use.
