Benidorm joins Anémona in the fight against breast cancer

Benidorm se suma a Anémona en la lucha contra el cáncer de mama

Sunday's commemorative march will be the central event, where the participation of more than 6,000 people is expected

Since this Monday, Benidorm City Council has been wearing the pink ribbon to show its support for people affected by breast cancer and their families and for research projects against this disease. The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has participated in the display of the commemorative banner along with other members of the Municipal Corporation and numerous members of the Self-Help Group for Women with Breast and Gynecological Cancer of the Marina Baixa, Anémona. This was the first of the events that will take place throughout the week to celebrate International Breast Cancer Day this Thursday, October 19, and which will culminate on Sunday with the traditional Anémona Solidarity March.

The president of this group, María Botella, explained that Benidorm has been the first municipality where the pink ribbon has been deployed, which these days will also reach other towns in the region. Likewise, Botella has reported that on Thursday, at 7 p.m., the reading of the manifesto will take place in the Torrejó Municipal Building, which the president of the Spanish Rowing Federation, Asunción Loriente will carry out this year.

Along with all this, the 'highlight' of the week will be the Anémona Solidarity March, which will take place this Sunday, October 22, and which will depart at 10 in the morning from the Plaza de SS MM los Reyes de España, under the Benidorm City Council, in which more than 6,000 people are expected to participate. The president of Anémona explained that the association continues to sell solidarity t-shirts to participate in this march, which have been designed this year by the young designer from Benidorm Marcos Inés Ruiz. They can be found both at the group's headquarters and in different collaborating stalls and businesses in Benidorm and other parts of the region, for 12 euros.

“We would love to be able to say in a few days that all the t-shirts are sold out, because this help is essential for all of us and so that Anémona can continue developing its work as an association,” said María Botella.

For her part, the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, thanked Anémona for “the determination and work they do throughout the year” in support of people affected by breast cancer and has encouraged citizens to join the activities scheduled for this week, especially collaborating with the purchase of t-shirts for the Solidarity March on Sunday.
