The mayor has highlighted the importance of "the perception of security" among tourists, which must be achieved with "resources, dedication and vocation"

Benidorm hosts the I Meeting of Local Police Officers of the Valencian Community

25 March 2022
Encuentro Policías Locales

The Assembly Hall of Benidorm City Council hosts throughout the day today the I Meeting of Local Police Officers of the Valencian Community, an appointment with presentations and round tables in which various issues related to the current situation of the body are analyzed.

These include conferences such as contrast tests in crimes against road safety, the relevance of the category of officer, the use of force in police operations or the reclassification of officers at the executive level.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, has welcomed those attending the Meeting, whom he has reminded of Benidorm's vocation to "attend, welcome and serve", a vocation assimilable to the Local Police force. Pérez has also insisted on the importance of "the perception of security" that visitors to a tourist destination must have, a perception that is achieved, he has assured, "with resources, vocation and dedication".

The Local Police represent 30% of the human resources of the State Security Forces and Bodies and are "the first friendly hand and the first face that attends to those who visit us".

Wishing "the greatest success" to the Meeting, the mayor urged attendees to "take advantage of the opportunity to get to know each other and face each other" because "surely they have worked many times in a coordinated manner without seeing each other". A moment that he has taken advantage of to value the "excellent collaboration" of the Local Police of the region in their continuous work.

The first presentation was given by the criminal lawyer Francisco González, who dealt with 'Contrast evidence in crimes against road safety. This conference was followed by a round table on 'The category of Officer and its relevance in the Local Police Forces'.

This presentation was followed by a round table on 'The officer category and its relevance in the local police forces' moderated by Amparo Gimeno, a retired officer from Aldaia, with the participation of Isabel Almarcha, an officer from Rojales, Paula Fajardo, official in Almassora and Sonia Beferull, official in Valencia.

The speakers have highlighted the difference in the work of an officer depending on the size of the municipality in which they perform their service.

Almarcha stressed that "being an officer in a town gives you a hard time and makes you self-sufficient" and she has stressed, "teamwork to save you from special situations." Fajardo, for her part, has influenced the figure of the officer "as a link with the citizen" and her task of "motivating, listening and understanding our colleagues on the basic scale."

The morning session closed with two other presentations. One on ‘Crimes related to toxic drugs, narcotics and psychotropic substances. Reference to cannabis associations and other issues of police interest' and 'The use of force in police operations, jurisprudential-practical perspective'.

In the afternoon, they will talk about the 'Reclassification of officers at the executive level' and 'Emotional intelligence applied to the exercise of middle management.
