Education asks interested students to send an email to estimate the demand and determine the needs of the service
Benidorm guarantees the UA university transport
Benidorm City Council "will guarantee university transport to Sant Vicent del Raspeig campus of the University of Alicante (UA) for the next academic year 2021/2022". This has been confirmed by the Councilor for Education, Maite Moreno, who has advanced that "since last June, from the city council we are working on different lines of action and, waiting for the character presence or not of the 2021-2022 academic year, at this time we are already specifying the real needs that exist and in determining the formula for the provision of the service and that will be based on that demand ”.
To know the demand, Moreno has made an appeal to students “registered in Benidorm and interested in the transport to Sant Vicent del Raspeig campus to send an email as soon as possible to educacio@benidorm.org indicating their name and surname, studies that will continue at the UA, their assigned shift (morning or evening), landline and mobile phone number, and the stop that they would choose among the eight initially proposed by the city council ”.
Specifically, stops are proposed located at: Severo Ochoa avenue, next to Lope de Vega school; Ametlla del Mar in front of Mercaloix; Avenida del Mediterráneo next to the Mediterráneo 17 commercial establishment; Avenida de Alfonso Puchades next to the Nuevo Nevada cafeteria and next to the Economy supermarket; avenida de Jaime I next to Burger King; Armada Española at the height of Poseidón Playa hotel; and Villajoyosa avenue next to Café Fresno.
For any questions, interested persons can contact the Department of Education on the phone 966815471.
The councillor of Education has recalled that "historically this university transport service has been provided by ABEU (Benidormense Association of University Students), the City Council subsidizing the students registered in Benidorm part of the cost they paid for it." However, at the beginning of March this year, ABEU decided to suspend this service. From that moment until the end of this course, the City Council made the pertinent steps so that students were attended by the Vilera Association of University Students (Assoveu), which managed the transport to the UA for Benidorm students who joined in such entity.
Moreno has clarified that "although in March ABEU transferred to its 260 associates the intention of trying to provide the service for the 2021/2022 academic year, as of today we have no evidence that this is the case, and therefore the Education Department in Benidorm City Hall is exploring different formulas and alternatives to guarantee that Benidorm students have a transport service to Sant Vicent del Raspeig campus ”.
