The project has a term of execution of four months and improvements reach 30%
Benidorm formalizes the contract for the works of Séquia Mare Park, which will begin before the end of the month
The City Council has already formalized the contract with the company awarded the works for the first phase of construction of Séquia Mare Park, which will begin before the end of the month. The mayor, Toni Pérez, has anticipated that this will be "one of the works that will remain active during the summer, as it is a performance of general interest." "Besides, as the project has a subsidy of 700,000 euros from the Provincial Council of Alicante we have to be very scrupulous in meeting deadlines, which in this case are four months," he said.
Peéez recalled that in this first phase will be provided to the entire area of electricity, water, sewer and lighting services; the paths and routes of 'running', 'walking' and bicycle will be traced; and playgrounds will be installed, such as petanque and zip-line. Specifically, the project includes a network of 1.7 kilometers of pedestrian paths; another one of about 1,000 meters destined to the circulation in perimeter bicycle to the park; and a third of something more than one kilometers to practice 'running', all of them between the Valencian Community avenue and the sports facilities of the Palau d'Esports l'Illa.
Although the trails and tracks will run throughout the park's surface, the rest of the actions will focus mainly on the existing large pine forest - which runs parallel to the remains of the only section of Séquia Mare that runs on public land - and its closest areas. An area of pine forest that will work as a large access portico to the rest of the green complex, and in which some specimens will be cleaned to facilitate their growth.
The mayor detailed that the first part of the work will focus on the clearing of the future surface of the park, except the one that affects the pine forest, to trace the roads. Afterwards, the lighting, rain and irrigation networks will be installed, in order to then provide the park with electricity and paving.
The works were awarded for an amount of 983,000 euros. The winning company, Orthem, has offered improvements that exceed 30%; an amount that will be reinvested in the implementation of activities.
Pérez stressed that "by the end of this year Benidorm will have a new green space ordered and perfectly embedded in the urban fabric and will undoubtedly be a meeting point for residents and tourists interested in leisure, sports and recreation " It has also influenced that this Park of the Séquia Mare "also contributes to the enhancement of our heritage", since in the lower section of this large green area, the closest to the Valencian Community Avenue, "the last vestiges on public land of the Mayor Irrigation promoted by Beatriz Fajardo in the seventeenth century and that served to supply water to the city ".
