The city has been exploring the potential of film tourism for years through ‘Benidorm Club Film & Friendly’ seal.

Benidorm Film Office exposes its experience in filming management at the Costa Blanca training sessions

Benidorm Film Office exposa la seua experiència en la gestió de rodatges en les jornades formatives de Costa Blanca...

Benidorm and its management of audiovisual productions have focused part of the second session of the training sessions on filming and film tourism organized by the Costa Blanca Film Commission. A conference with which the entity intends to "provide sufficient knowledge and tools" to the technicians of the filming offices of the province so that they "attract, facilitate and make profitable the work of companies and professionals in the audiovisual sector" in film productions , television or advertising that take place in the different municipalities of Alicante.

Rosa Llorca, technician in charge of Benidorm Film Office, has been in charge of exposing the experience and evolution of the city in filming management, and also explaining the actions undertaken by Visit Benidorm to explore and position the destination in the segment of cinematographic tourism. Among these joint actions, the creation of ‘Benidorm Club Film & Friendly’ seal stands out. Likewise, Llorca has influenced the opportunities that it has provided for the Benidorm Film Office by incorporating indicators of its activity into the Smart Tourist Destination (DTI).

Along these days, the mayor, Toni Pérez, highlighted “the conscientious and tenacious work that has been carried out in recent years from Benidorm Film Office to make the city a benchmark in this segment, and which is reflected in the fact that Benidorm has been considered as 'a case of success' within the programming of these days of the Costa Blanca Film Commission ”.

Toni Pérez recalled that “Benidorm began 2020 by recording a historic audiovisual activity, being the set at the same time of three productions of national and international relevance filmed entirely in the city, which have already been released or will be released in the near future: the latest feature film by Isabel Coixet, 'Nieva en Benidorm'; in Atresmedia series, ‘Benidorm’; and the film 'El Cover', by Secun de la Rosa's debut as a director ”.

The mayor has stressed that “although the first months of the pandemic stopped many audiovisual projects throughout the country, Benidorm was one of the first cities to recover activity after confinement and did so under the premise of 'safe filming', capturing also shootings of scenes of top-level national productions that will soon see the light ”.

In addition to the person in charge of Benidorm Film Office, Emilio J. Alhambra, in charge of Production and coordination of Mediapro Services projects; Luis Tormo, coordinator of the Valencian Community Film Commission; and Carlos J. Navas, professor of Audiovisual Communication at Miguel Hernández University (UMH).

2019 figures

While waiting for the 2020 balance sheet to be released within the framework of Fitur, during today's session the head of Benidorm Film Office recalled the economic impact of audiovisual activity in 2019, which "exceeded the 3 million euros ”. That year, 111 productions or projects were authorized. Advertising and television programs were the most numerous, although shorts, TV series, and music videos were also shot in the city; a trend that was maintained in 2020 and to which three feature films were added. Although most of the filming projects in Benidorm bear the stamp of Spain, European productions are also welcomed.
