Toni Pérez highlights the strategic project Benidorm DTI, “which repositions us as ahead of the time”.

Benidorm exhibits its leadership as a DTI in the 5th International Tourism Quality Congress in Tenerife

Benidorm exhibe su liderazgo como DTI en el 5º Congreso Internacional de Calidad Turística en Tenerife

Benidorm participates in the 5th International Tourism Quality Congress organized by the Institute for Spanish Tourism Quality (ICTE) in Tenerife and in Table 6, focused on “Opportunities and challenges for DTIs”, has been the mayor, Toni Pérez, who He has pointed out the achievements that have cemented the Benidorm leadership as the world's first certified Smart Tourist Destination.

The congress analyzes the challenges of the sector and the importance of certified quality as a strategic element of the same and a vector for improving competitiveness.

Regarding the DTIs and their challenges and opportunities, the congressional issues focused on knowing the current moment in terms of smart tourism, the decision to “become intelligent” and the presentation of the DTI experiences for some keys on the present and future of DTIs.

In a panel in which Javier García Díez, general director of the Spanish Standardization Association, Edurne Vidal, head of projects of SEGITTUR, and Celia Romero, CEO of Tourism Intelligence, also participated, the mayor of Benidorm has pointed out the main characteristics of the city : European capital of Sun and Beach, sustainable urban model of vertical city where its little more than sixty-six thousand inhabitants live with a tourist population that doubles, at least that number and can reach 400,000 people, at certain times of the summer, 16.5 million tourist overnight stays in the 65,000 places of regulated accommodation in hotels, campsites and apartments, which makes us the 4th Spanish city for overnight stays.

Toni Pérez has explained the repositioning strategy of the Benidorm tourist destination - and its DTI Master Plan that has led it to be certified according to standard 178501 - and the measures applied in governance, accessibility, innovation, sustainability and technology to improve municipal management of Benidorm and offer more optimized services to residents and tourists. And, within that framework, the correspondence of any of the actions programmed by the City Council “highlights the commitment to quality in accordance with the seventeen Sustainable Development Goals and the 2030 Agenda”, marking the imminent actions of Benidorm.

The mayor stressed that the strategic project Benidorm DTI "is repositioning us nationally and internationally as we have always been, leaders in the tourism of Sun and Beach since the sixties and now some" advanced "at the time in DTI"

Key in this process has been, said Toni Pérez, to entrust the process to Tourism Intelligence and work with companies such as Dinapsis, which, for example, has allowed us to make a qualitative leap in water cycle management, or develop projects of urban resilience, pilot initiatives or data management to achieve greater service efficiency; recognized actions with various awards and distinctions.

Also, the mayor insisted on the need to obtain AENOR or ICTE certifications in practically all fields of activity related to tourism, as well as develop specific products in gastronomy, sports, shopping and health-Wellness or entities such as Visit Benidorm or the Film Office

The fundamental challenge is the specialization under the demands of modernization and sustainability, knowing that the key to the future lies in offering services, connectivity and complementary offer.
