Benidorm condemns the three sexist crimes confirmed in the last hours in our country

19 September 2023
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

With them, there are already 47 women murdered by their partners or ex-partners in 2023 in Spain and there is another case under investigation

This Tuesday, the municipal corporation of Benidorm observed a minute of silence to condemn the three sexist crimes confirmed in recent hours in our country. The victims are an 80-year-old woman who was murdered by her partner last Friday, September 15, in Orihuela; a 51-year-old woman in Castelló the same day and who had an adult son; and a third, 35 years old woman, who was murdered on Saturday by her ex-partner. The latter had a minor daughter and she had previously filed several complaints for mistreatment.

Plaza de SS MM los Reyes de España has hosted this silent rally, which has been led by the mayor of the city, Toni Pérez, along with other members of the local Corporation.

The number of women who have been murdered in Spain so far this year by their partners or ex-partners now amounts to 47 victims and 1,231 since 2003, the date on which crimes of violence against women began to be counted. Likewise, the number of minors who have been orphaned as a result of sexist violence throughout 2023 amounts to 46 and 423 since 2013, when the count began.

On the other hand, the Government Delegation against Gender Violence has reported that it is collecting data on the murder of another 41-year-old woman in the province of Tarragona to clarify whether it is a new case of gender violence.

The Department of Equality recalls that Benidorm City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to delete it from the mobile call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and in 52 languages.
