Equality recalls the 016 telephone service for victims available in 52 languages

Benidorm condemns the last macho crime that occurred over the weekend in Vitoria

31 May 2023
Minuto de silencio en el Ayuntamiento de Benidorm.

Benidorm City Council has expressed today with a silent rally its condemnation of the latest confirmed crime of gender violence committed last weekend in Vitoria. The rally took place at Plaza de Sus Majestades Reyes de España, headed by the mayor Toni Pérez and the Councilor for Equality, Ángela Zaragozí, both in office and other members of the municipal corporation also participated, as well as numerous residents who joined the act.

The victim is a 32-year-old woman, pregnant with twins and the perpetrator of the crime is, according to investigations, her ex-partner. The woman, who was murdered in the apartment hotel where she was staying, had another three-year-old daughter who was found unharmed.

With this there are already 20 women murdered in Spain so far this year by their partners or ex-partners and 1,204 since 2003, the date on which victims of gender violence began to be counted. The number of minors orphaned by gender violence in Spain rises to 21 this year and 398 since 2013.

The Department of Equality recalls that the City Council has personnel specialized in gender violence to provide free advice to any woman who feels threatened. Likewise, it reiterates once again that the victims have the free telephone number 016, which leaves no trace on the telephone bill, although it is advisable to remove it from the mobile phone call log. This service is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year, and in 52 languages.
