Benidorm commemorates the International Book Day with the reading of Don Quixote in Hort de Colón
With the traditional continuous reading of Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes, the masterpiece of Spanish literature, the International Book Day has been commemorated today in Benidorm, which is organized every year by the councils of Historical Heritage and Culture, through municipal libraries (in this case the Library of l'Hort de Colón), with the collaboration of Afratex (Association of Fraternity and Experience) of Benidorm.
On this occasion the reading has resumed at 10.00 in the morning at the point where it was last year, in Chapter XV that tells the adventures of Sancho Panza, appointed governor of the island of Barataria. The event involved around 25 students of CEIP Aitana, members of Afratex, volunteers who for the occasion have registered in the municipal libraries and members of the municipal corporation.
After reading the passage that has been assigned, Toni Pérez said that "we have gone out into the street" and with the celebration at Hort de Colón, we have "moved to the nerve center of our city" to an environment that, "after the pedestrianisation of Tomás Ortuño street acquires an impressive dynamism and activity ". "Culture," said Toni Pérez, "at the service of people and in the center of the town with all the comfort and convenience." The mayor also thanked the Afratex effort in the organization of the day, and "the boys and girls of Aitana."
After the mayor, the reading was continued by the head of the municipal areas of Culture and Historical Heritage, Ana Pellicer, and then representatives of the rest of the municipal groups. The reading has been extended until 2:00 p.m. It will be resumed next year.
