Benidorm City Hall hosts the inaugural session of the intersectoral committee of Xarxa Salut

29 April 2025
El Ayuntamiento de Benidorm acoge la sesión constitutiva de la mesa intersectorial de ‘Xarxa Salut’

Benidorm City Council plenary hall hosted the founding session of the intersectoral committee of "Xarxa Salut" this Tuesday, a space for coordination and collaboration between different sectors related to health, social services, culture, sports, and more, to promote community health and well-being through joint actions. This intersectoral committee is part of the development of the "Xarxa Salud" strategy, a network of municipalities involved in promoting healthy environments and lifestyle habits to improve the general health of citizens, of which the city of Benidorm has been a member since last summer.

The session was chaired by the Councilor for Health and Citizen Participation, Ana Pellicer, accompanied by the manager of the Marina Baixa Health Department, Pascual Pastor; the director of the Benidorm Public Health Center, José Vicente Pascual; The doctor in charge of the municipal health department and two nurses specializing in health promotion from the Public Health Center were also present. Numerous representatives from the municipal, health, and associative spheres attended the meeting. The Neighbourhood Council represented the latter: Anémona, Asmibe, Foietes retirees and pensioners associations and the UDP, Aspanion and the Red Cross.

The composition of the intersectoral committee includes municipal representatives, primary care professionals, representatives of schools, social, sports, and cultural organisations, and citizen entities coordinated and organised through associations or other organisations.

Both Ana Pellicer and the representatives of the regional Health Department and the Public Health Center explained that the creation of this intersectoral committee is "one more step than those already taken since Benidorm joined this network of municipalities" and will allow "continued progress in the development of the 'Xarxa Salut' in our city." In this regard, the Councillor for Health and Citizen Participation emphasised that "the main objectives of this body are to promote healthy local policies, foster health equity, coordinate actions between diverse sectors, and design and implement local health plans with community participation. All of this is aimed at improving citizen response and the scope of all the actions carried out."

Mayor Toni Pérez also attended the constitutive meeting of this body and congratulated and thanked all the participants for their "commitment and willingness to be part of this project." At the same time, he took the opportunity to express his gratitude for the work carried out by associations and professionals, especially those in the healthcare field, throughout the day yesterday, Monday, to "cope with an unprecedented blackout with barely any disruption to the services we provide to the public" and to ensure that the day passed "in a calm and orderly manner, despite being without basic supplies in many cases for nearly 12 hours," such as electricity and/or telephone service.
