Benidorm begins work on the camping and multi-adventure area in the Séquia Mare Park

Toni Pérez emphasises that with this project, "we are taking another step in shaping this green space as a meeting point for the general public and young people in particular."
Benidorm City Council has begun construction work on the "Camping and Multi-Adventure Area in Séquia Mare Park." The project was awarded a budget of €710,253.06 and will be completed within six months. The project is included in the 2023 Sustainable Tourism Destination Plan, specifically Project 11, Axis 4, "Green Benidorm." The contract was awarded to Mediterráneo de Obras y Asfaltos SA. This action is part of the Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan financed by the European Union—Next Generation EU, the Recovery and Resilience Facility, established by Regulation (EU) 2021/241 of the European Parliament and of the Council of February 12, 2021, Component 14, Investment 1, Submeasure 2, of the PRTR, managed by the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Tourism. This extraordinary program of tourism sustainability plans in destinations for 2022 and 2023.
This morning, the Mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, visited the progress of the works, which have been underway since last week. The Councillor for Youth department, Ana Soliveres, accompanied him; the Councillor for Parks and Gardens, José Ramón González de Zárate; and the Councillor for Urban Scene, Francis Muñoz; as well as other members of the local government, municipal technicians, and officials from the awarded company.
The new camping and multi-adventure area to be created is located next to the youth hostel and interpretation centre, to create an environment that promotes concepts and values such as sustainability, coexistence, and healthy leisure activities. In this regard, Mayor Toni Pérez specified that this is a project "with which we aim to complete the configuration of this green space as a meeting point for the general public and the youth population in particular." Once completed, Pérez said, "the city will have a virtually unique space in the province, which will also showcase all our environmental and historical wealth." In this sense, he expressed his conviction that "it will be highly sought after."
The creation of these facilities in the Séquia Mare Park was included in our strategy to undertake rehabilitation and enhancement of public assets, opening them to the public and for public use." The mayor continued, the park is designed as "an ethnographic-cultural and tourist asset that facilitates the population's contact with nature."
"With this project, we continue to highlight the historical elements of our city at a site where vestiges of the Séquia Mare still exist. This waterway formed part of the old Polop Irrigation System, which supplied irrigation water to the cultivable vegetable garden areas of the municipality," added Toni Pérez, who believes the camping area and multi-adventure park will become "a new strategic axis with great potential for tourism by fostering contact between citizens and visitors with nature."
