Benidorm begins the renovation of drinking water infrastructures in Marina Alta and Marina Baixa avenues
The works in Marina Baixa Avenue also include the renovation of the rainwater and wastewater network
Benidorm City Council will start next Monday the renovation works of the drinking water infrastructures in Marina Alta and Marina Baixa avenues, in La Cala district. In Marina Baixa avenue, in addition, the sewerage network will be renewed.
Both actions, which have favourable reports from the municipal Department of Engineering, reach a global budget of 671,029 euros and will be financed by Hidraqua Investment Fund, the concessionaire company for Comprehensive Water Management in the city.
In the case of Marina Alta Avenue, the lines of action will focus on preliminary work and demolition, the drinking and regenerated water distribution network and the subsequent replacement of pavement, improvement of accessibility and signage. The estimated completion time for this work is three months and the budget amounts to 203,629.75 euros.
The project contemplates "the comprehensive renovation and adaptation of the existing or necessary drinking water pipes, as well as the implementation of a regenerated water pipe and the replacement of the services affected by the works", explained Mayor Toni Pérez, who also He has indicated that these works "will solve current problems, such as the existence of asbestos-cement pipes in the conduction of drinking water".
In addition, he added, the new reclaimed water line “will allow supplying parks, tree-lined roads, etc. and to be a complementary and alternative installation to that of drinking water”. Likewise, he has said, "the later paving will be adapted to the accessibility regulations, which will make it possible to expand the sidewalks and the installed elements".
In Marina Baixa avenue the intervention will be similar, although in this case, it will also act in the rainwater and wastewater network. The execution period, in this case, will be four months and the budget will amount to 467,399.67 euros.
"Here too the works and the completion will comply with the regulations of universal accessibility to the urban environment" has specified the mayor. On this avenue there are also asbestos-cement pipes that will be changed "and at the same time the sewage system is very deteriorated and needs an intervention."
As in the first action, both the roadway and the sidewalks, the signage and the furniture will propose integrating solutions that will entail resizing the sidewalks and street furniture.

Pérez has underlined that “with these interventions, we continue deepening our commitment to improving the city's hydraulic infrastructures, as we have been doing for years. Not only do we renew the subsoil infrastructure, but we gain accessibility and improve the mobility of people and the urban scene”.
Similarly, the mayor has highlighted that both avenues are "a connection node of an important school route, in addition to the Tourist Development Center and the health centre." To this will be added the renovation of the lighting under the IDAE program "which we have anticipated this year" and which will make "pedestrian traffic safer even to the way to the beach".
