The mayor highlights the values of sport, which "is universal, transcends borders, and speaks a unique language"
The 20th Costa Blanca Cup Futsal kicks off with 97 teams and more than 1,000 players from eleven countries

The twentieth edition of Costa Blanca Cup Futsal kicked off last night at the Benidorm Palace with the opening parade of all the participating teams in a competition that grows every year and takes on an "absolutely international" character, as noted by tournament director Fernando Brotons.
Over the past 20 years, 1,050 teams from 25 different countries have taken part in the competition. In fact, for this 2025 edition, starting this morning, 97 teams from 11 different countries and more than a thousand players will enter the competition. Thus, 38 foreign teams, 37 Spanish teams from outside the Valencian Community, and another 22 Valencian participants have arrived at the different venues in the Marina Alta and Baixa regions.
On an international level, the return of Brazil, a futsal powerhouse, after several years stands out. From Europe, teams from France, Spain, England, and Belgium will be present, especially in the number of participants. Also present in futsal for the first time, the United States will be present, and the significant participation of teams from countries such as Taiwan, Lebanon, and Venezuela is significant.
The opening ceremony of this twentieth edition began yesterday at 9:30 p.m., with all the participating teams parading one by one in a fun and colourful atmosphere. After a contemporary dance performance and a laser show, the audience was given a look at the special trophy designed for the occasion.
Before concluding, Mayor Toni Pérez addressed the audience, especially the players and coaches. He emphasised that this is "the most international edition in the history of the Costa Blanca Cup Futsal" and stated that "the participating teams have made it possible and have consistently demonstrated that sport is universal, transcends borders, and speaks a single language." Pérez expressed his wish for them "The best of luck, that you enjoy these days, and that the competition brings you joy and learning." He also stated that the athletes and coaches "are the real stars" and therefore announced that "we are going to do our best to make your experience unique. Days of fun, sports, and leisure with your teammates, coaches, and families." The mayor concluded by emphasising that "in Benidorm, you have your home, and if you want to come back after the tournament, we welcome you with open arms."
