As of the 16th and for two months, traffic will be cut from Jaime I to Xixo and access to the fords will only be allowed through the established itineraries

The work of the Low Emission Zone on La Armada Española Avenue enters its second phase on Monday

The much of the work will be finished before Easter

The project to create the Low Emission Zone (ZBE) on Avenida Armada Española enters its second phase this Monday, January 16, as reported today by the Councilor for Mobility and Works, José Ramón González de Zárate. This second phase of work affects the section of Avenida Armada Española between Jaime I and Xixo, which will be closed to traffic for approximately two months, only allowing access to vehicles with a ford.

While the cut lasts, these vehicles will be able to access the closed section from Xixo or Puerto Rico avenues, depending on the cases; while the exit towards Alcalde Vicente Pérez Devesa avenue will be through the same Xixo or Racharell avenue, respectively.

De Zárate recalled that the creation of the ZBE is a "very important" action and that it involves an investment of more than 1.2 million euros, of which 249,360 euros come from the Provincial Council of Alicante within the 'Plan' program.

The area of action covers an area of 24,000 square meters, which will be transformed to address more sustainable mobility, in which space is gained for pedestrians and in which the use of soft means of mobility -bicycles, and vehicles- will be promoted, moving the private vehicle towards park-and-ride parking spaces such as those of Xixo or Cuba avenue.

For this, "a road with no sidewalks will be implemented throughout the avenue", and actions will be developed to encourage the use of bicycles and minimize CO2 emissions, such as the installation of a bicycle counter, smart parking for these vehicles, an environmental monitoring system, information systems for urban public transport and reinforcement of access control.

During the first phase of the work, work has been carried out on La Armada Española section between Xixo and Vicente Llorca Alós, where all that remains is asphalt. At this point, as will be done in the phase that begins on Monday, the "drinking water and sewage" pipes have been renewed, since the "water infrastructure was very deteriorated." In addition, within the project, action will also be taken on the rainwater network, to increase the capacity to capture rainwater from Foietes ravine, Jaime I avenue, and surrounding streets, so that "there are no floods".

De Zárate indicated that "the commitment" that has been adopted with "neighbors and merchants" is "to arrive at Easter with much of the work finished" so that during this holiday period "anyone can walk through the area and the establishments work hard."
