The programs, courses and educational, sports and leisure activities promoted by Benidorm City Council during the summer have reached almost 2,000 people registered, according to data provided today by the mayor, Toni Pérez. A municipal offer that has reached the population from 3 to 16 years old and that has been developed mainly during the months of July and August in different municipal spaces.

The councillor has indicated that "with these programs, courses and activities we have facilitated work, family and social reconciliation for the families of these minors during school holidays, with a varied and professional offer that has been provided by municipal staff in some cases and by companies specializing in others”. An offer that, in addition, "is adapted to the needs of minors and that, in addition to an educational, sports, cultural and/or leisure alternative, also creates a meeting space in which children and young people share experiences and interests".

The numbers of participants, he added, "confirm not only the important demand that exists for this type of service but also the trust that Benidorm families place in the initiatives that the City Council designs and proposes with their younger neighbours in mind."

According to the figures provided by the mayor, the municipal sports schools organized by the Department of Sports, which have been developed between the end of June and August 19 and taught by the City Council's sports technicians, have added nearly 1,200 registered. This sports offer has included Aquagym schools, Swimming -of different age groups, for people with functional and corrective diversity-, beach soccer, multi-sports school -two age groups and with custody service-, kayak, tennis -three groups of age-, sailing and beach volleyball.

As in previous years, the Department of Education has worked on two initiatives: the Summer Educational Support Program (PAEV) and the Summer School, organized by the Ampas Association with the collaboration of the City Council.

In the PAEV, an educational reinforcement activity aimed at primary school students taught by municipal staff, 80 students have participated; while the Summer School, which ends this Friday, has reached a participation record with 276 minors during the month of July and 224 in August. From the City Council the full assistance of 48 boys and girls has been awarded in July, and 40 in August. In addition, the City Council discounts 50% of the cost of the Summer School to the rest of the minors who are registered in Benidorm.

Finally, the Department of Youth has developed two activities: the Summer Program and the Summer Camp. Nearly 200 young people between the ages of 10 and 16 have attended the Summer Program, which has combined numerous activities such as cultural outings, to the beach or to the sports centre; workshops; emotional intelligence work; sports; games; hiking; kitchen; environmental activities; board games or cinema forum”. The Summer Camp was attended by fifty minors, who enjoyed two weeks in the Burgos town of Espinosa de Los Monteros
