The City Council revitalizes Paseo de Tamarindos and wins the pedestrian area

Benidorm City Council finalizes the urbanization works of the Paseo de Tamarindos, converted into a new reference and tourist attraction with important improvements in accessibility. A space that now limits the circulation of vehicles and gives preference, above all, to pedestrians.

The mayor of Benidorm, Toni Pérez, together with the Councilor for Works, José Ramón González de Zárate, have supervised the intervention today, still in progress, and have verified firsthand how the pedestrian has occupied the space that was once taken over by vehicles.

To carry out the works, the mayor recalled, the authorization of the General Directorate of Coasts, dependent on the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, has been mandatory. In January, three sections of the masonry balustrade were replaced by a new 10 + 10 mm thick safety glass; New concrete benches and a wooden one were also installed with the label #BenidormTeEspera, a slogan promoted by the City Council with the aim of transmitting hope to citizens during the pandemic.

The new Paseo de Tamarindos is a "space and enclave of great attraction for our visitors, but also for tranquility", stressed Pérez, who has positively valued its transformation. However, access will be allowed "to those who need it with their vehicles" and has announced the creation of four places for vehicles driven by people with reduced mobility and "about a hundred places for motorcycles" and mopeds.

Pérez has defended this measure because the motorcycle is "possibly" the vehicle "most used and the one with the most number plates in Benidorm". The intention is that people in Benidorma who "can come to enjoy a day at the beach, or this enclave, or these views with complete peace of mind, knowing, in addition, that we are contributing to a more sustainable mobility."
Paseo de Tamarindos is now occupied by people who practice sports, or simply walk. Converted into a preferred place for pedestrians, as evidenced by the priming of white road markings on a blue background throughout its entire route, it offers us a unique viewpoint, recovered by the municipal intervention transformed, as highlighted by the mayor, in a "privileged space of our city and the Mediterranean".
