The medical certificate requirement is eliminated and the exams will be held in February and May
The City Council informs of the changes to obtaining the municipal certificate of aptitude to drive taxis
Benidorm City Council today announced upcoming changes and modifications to the process for obtaining the municipal taxi driver's license. These changes were communicated to various local groups and associations at a meeting held this morning at City Hall, attended by the councillors for Mobility, Public Service, and Commerce: Francis Muñoz, Jesús Carrobles, and Javier Jordá.
As explained by Francis Muñoz, the purpose of the meeting was "to inform associations and groups connected in some way to the taxi sector about the changes to the selection process for obtaining a taxi driver's license, which we intend to have in effect by May." In fact, the councillor specified that registration for the exam "will be open from April 15th to 30th, provided the modifications have been approved."
In this regard, the councillor announced that these changes will be approved by decree and subsequently presented to the political groups in the relevant committees and at the next plenary session. In short, the proposed changes relate, firstly, to the scheduling of the exams to obtain the certificate, which will now be held in February and May, instead of May and October as before, "to allow candidates to enter the workforce just before the start of the peak season." Secondly, the requirement to present a medical certificate is eliminated "because it is understood that if they already hold a driver's license, they have already submitted the corresponding certificate," Muñoz stated.
Another modification concerns the exam fee, which increases from nine euros to 35. However, Francis Muñoz pointed out, "this represents a saving for applicants because, although the fee increases, by not having to present the medical certificate, which costs around 50 euros, the overall cost is considerably lower." Finally, the exam format also changes, since from now on, candidates will have to answer a total of 40 questions, and incorrect answers will be deducted when scoring.
