Benidorm begins the contracting process for the new maintenance service for ornamental fountains

Benidorm City Council has begun processing the contract for the new service for the operation, maintenance, and upkeep of the city's ornamental fountains. The main new feature is the inclusion of the Neptune Square fountain in the contract. Unlike the last tender, this contract will be awarded as a single lot.

The annual budget for this contract is €192,594.16 and includes the fountains at the AP7 roundabout, Avenida Europa, Plaza de la Hispanidad, the fountain at the intersection of Ibiza and Filipinas streets, Elche Park, Periodista Emilio Romero Street, Venezuela Street, Plaza de la Senyoría, the Séquia Mare fountain, and the aforementioned Neptune Square fountain.

The Councillor for the Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, explained that with the launch of this tender, “we are seeking two objectives: firstly, economic and energy savings, and secondly, reduced water consumption.” In this regard, the councillor specified that “new electrical and lighting systems with LED bulbs that reduce consumption” have been incorporated.

Regarding the conservation of drinking water, the aim is to “keep the water in the basin as long as possible so that it doesn't need to be replenished and only the water lost through evaporation.” The company awarded this contract will be responsible for “maintaining clean and clear water in all ornamental fountains, carrying out the necessary treatments and cleanings,” González de Zárate indicated.

The winning bidder's responsibilities also include preventing the growth of algae, microorganisms, and larvae, as well as the formation of calcareous deposits. To this end, it is planned that the monitoring of physicochemical parameters (chlorine, pH, etc.) will be carried out weekly, while the monitoring of microbiological parameters (aerobic bacteria, Legionella, etc.) will be performed monthly.

In addition, the fountains will be inspected quarterly. All nozzles and booster pumps will be checked every six months. The pre-filter will be inspected monthly, and the recirculation filter every six months. Finally, the disinfection equipment will be inspected monthly.

According to the Councillor for the Water Cycle, “we will have a very good contract, not exceeding €200,000, which will contribute to improving the city's image and giving these spaces a feeling of freshness.”
