Benidorm once again hosts the charity race against ALS organized by the firefighters

The city of Benidorm will host the second edition of a charity fun run next Sunday, June 7th, organised by the Marina Baixa Firefighters Association to raise funds to improve the quality of life for those suffering from amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neurodegenerative disease with no cure. Those affected require numerous resources to manage their condition and live with the best possible quality of life. The Councillors for Sports and Social Welfare, Javier Jordá and Ángela Zaragozí, participated in the race's presentation this Friday, along with Paco Pedrera, a firefighter and driving force behind the initiative, and Paula Pérez, a social worker and spokesperson for the Valencian Association of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ADELA-CV).

They all encouraged everyone to "register and participate" in support of this cause.

The race will cover a distance of five kilometres, entirely within the Levante area. Registration is now open and can be completed through the website www.grupobrotons.com, where participants can also contribute with a "zero bib," make donations, or participate in the Nordic walking or walking events. The start and finish line will be in the Plaza de SS MM Reyes de España, as specified by Pepe Brotons, manager of Grupo Brotons. Runners can register online up to three days before the race and at the starting line before the event.

Paco Pedrera emphasised that the race's objective is "to raise funds for ALS patients," and therefore stressed that the firefighters, the City Council, and ADELA "want to have the maximum number of registrations and for it to be another great event, as well as an important day for everyone who attends." "The firefighters will make an effort to make the race even more interesting and for people to enjoy the day," he added. The goal of the event, Pedrera emphasised, is "to raise awareness of the disease and the caregivers." And for this purpose, firefighters will participate equipped in their intervention gear. “Raising awareness of the disease, those affected, and their caregivers is our goal,” she concluded.

Paula Pérez, for her part, stated that this initiative is “fundamental for the association, those affected, and their families because it supports the programs we carry out at the association through social work, psychology, physiotherapy, speech therapy, etc.” Ángela Zaragozí, Councilor for Social Welfare, expressed the City Council's “great pride” in participating in “this solidarity initiative” and reiterated that Benidorm is a city known for its solidarity “and will demonstrate it again this year.”

Last year's event raised €14,500, “and now we want to increase that amount.” Zaragozí emphasised that ALS “is a disease that affects not only those who suffer from it but also their families, who require many resources.”

Finally, the Councillor for Sports, Javier Jordá, concluded the presentation by inviting “everyone to participate in this charity event” and thanked the firefighters “for counting on us once again this year after seeing how people rallied around us last year.”
