Óscar Esplá Auditorium hosts the opening gala of the tournament, which runs until Sunday, in men's and women's categories, at Guillermo Amor Sports City
800 promising young players from the national football scene are competing in the Spanish National Under-12 Football 7 Championship for Regional Teams in Benidorm
Guillermo Amor Sports Complex will host the Spanish National Under-12 7-a-side Football Championship for Regional Teams this long weekend, for both boys and girls.
The event, which runs from today until Sunday, May 3rd, will bring together the 19 regional federations and around 800 promising young footballers along with their coaches and families. Óscar Esplá Auditorium in l’Aigüera Park hosted the tournament's opening ceremony yesterday, where Mayor Toni Pérez welcomed all participants in Spain's official languages.
Also present at the event were the Councillor for Sports, Javier Jordá, and other members of the local council, as well as representatives from the Royal Spanish Football Federation, including the Director of Competitions and Youth Football, Alberto Bárez, and from the Valencian Community Football Federation, led by its president, Salvador Gomar.
The championship will have a competition system divided into four groups: three of five teams and one of four. Once the group stage is over, the top teams from each group will advance to the knockout rounds, after which the national champion in both categories will be decided.
The matches will be played at Nerea Pérez Machado football field, Juan and Miguel Martínez Munuera fields, and Guillermo Amor stadium, bringing together “some of the most promising young players in Spanish youth football” and making Benidorm “the hub of emerging talent for three days of excitement, nerves, and spectacle,” as the organisers stated.
Mayor Toni Pérez thanked the Spanish and Valencian Football Federations for choosing Benidorm to host this national team championship, which in previous editions has featured players who are now major stars, such as internationals Lamine Yamal and Vicky López. Thus, he wished “all the girls and boys who are going to play matches, that you have some unforgettable days here in Benidorm, which is also your home.”
For their part, the representatives of the RFEF (Royal Spanish Football Federation) and the FFCV (Valencian Football Federation) thanked the City Council, the Provincial Council, and the sponsors for their support of this championship, the first at these developmental levels.
All matches will be broadcast on the official channels of the Spanish Football Federation, while the semifinals and finals will also be shown on Movistar+.
Furthermore, both finals will have professional referees from the First Division: in the men's final, the referees will be Juan and Miguel Martínez Munuera, both from Benidorm; and in the women's final, referee Ainara Acevedo. All of this is to “bring the experience of all these young people as close as possible to professional football.”
