Boca del Calvari museum hosts from this Friday ‘Serie Íbera’, the new exhibition by Sómnica Bernabeu

El Museu Boca del Calvari acoge desde este viernes ‘Serie Íbera’, la nueva muestra de Sómnica Bernabeu

Benidorm is hosting, starting this Friday, the new exhibition by artist Sómnica Bernabeu, entitled ‘Iberian Series’, which can be visited at the Museu Boca del Calvari. The Councillor for Historical and Cultural Heritage, Ana Pellicer, explained that this exhibition “proposes a dialogue between past and present through a contemporary reinterpretation of the Iberian legacy” of the Iberian Peninsula's Levante region and announced that the opening visit will take place this afternoon, starting at 7:30 p.m., and will include the participation of the artist herself.

The series is composed of twelve large-format works, which place the figure of the Iberian Lady at the centre as a symbol of identity, leadership, and spirituality, also incorporating the presence of the ancient Tanit, a deity linked to fertility and feminine power in the ancient Mediterranean.

Inspired by the cultural memory of the Alicante coast, the artist reclaims the symbolic power of Iberian female representations to offer a contemporary perspective that connects with our roots. Thus, the exhibition invites viewers to reflect on cultural heritage as a living part of our identity, recovering ancestral symbols that continue to resonate today.

Ana Pellicer explained that this exhibition “is the contribution of the Department of Historical and Cultural Heritage to the rich program of the Department of Equality, headed by my colleague Ángela Zaragozí, in commemoration of March 8th, International Women's Day,” a program that began on February 20th and will run until March 20th.

Sómnica Bernabeu, a graduate in Fine Arts from the University of Valencia with additional training at the Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze and the Accademia di Belle Arti di Palermo, returns to her artistic pursuits in this series after a career also linked to the business world. Her work is characterised by a personal and defined style, faithful to classical technique yet open to contemporary sensibilities.

The opening will be attended by the artist and offers an opportunity to explore an exhibition that connects the cultural heritage of the Mediterranean with contemporary creation, reinforcing the link between memory, territory, and identity.

Therefore, Ana Pellicer has invited residents and visitors to “come to Boca del Calvari and enjoy this new exhibition, which will be open to the public for the next three months.” She also noted that “admission is completely free and can be combined with a visit to the Museum’s permanent exhibition, located in Luis Duart i Alabarta Room, which displays numerous pieces from the municipal archaeological collection.”
