The Hidraqua concessionaire also carries out maintenance work on the rainwater collection network

Benidorm once again cleans the urban sections of the ravines to minimize the effects of possible heavy rains

30 August 2023
Benidorm vuelve a limpiar los tramos urbanos de los barrancos para minimizar los efectos de posibles lluvias torrenciales

Benidorm City Council, through the Water Cycle Department and the Hidraqua concessionaire, has carried out a thorough cleaning of the urban sections of the Barceló, Derramador, and Murtal ravines in the municipal area. The objective of this action, as explained by councilor José Ramón González de Zárate, is to “minimize the effects that possible torrential rains would have in the city, such as those that are expected for this coming weekend.”

As has been done in other years, the work consists of removing belongings that appear, clearing vegetation, and cleaning dry reeds. In the case of the Barceló ravine, action has been taken from the Lope de Vega School to the beach.

In the Derramador ravine, where the concessionaire Actúa has also collaborated, councilor José Ramón González de Zárate has pointed out that with these cleaning and clearing tasks, “the image of these areas and safety in the event of episodes of heavy rain are improved.”

Also in El Murtal, Hidraqua workers have carried out cleaning and clearing work “to leave it in the best possible conditions in the part that corresponds to us.”

The councilor has insisted that "throughout the year we clean the urban section of the Benidorm ravines, especially about the removal of belongings and debris, a task that intensifies at this time with the elimination of weeds and green waste ”. In fact, González de Zárate added, “the two dealerships not only stick to the channels but also review the surroundings to remove belongings and branches.”

The head of the Water Cycle also recalled that “while the City Council acts all year round in the ravines, we have made ourselves available to the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation in case they need help in the work to be carried out in the non-urban part of the ravines. ravines, which is their responsibility.”

In addition to cleaning the ravines, according to the planning planned by the concessionaire company for the maintenance of the municipal rainwater collection network, cleaning, and maintenance work is being carried out on this infrastructure that covers 102 kilometers of pipes and around 6,000 scuppers.

In addition to these already planned works, and given the forecast of rain for the weekend, inspection and cleaning work will be undertaken in the main catchments of the stormwater network. “The city is prepared for the possibility of rainy episodes because apart from the work during the year, we have been carrying out the entire month of August with these cleaning tasks in anticipation of the arrival of heavy rains,” concluded González de Zárate.
