Benidorm carries out repairs to a sewer mains in Severo Ochoa
Benidorm City Council's Water Cycle Department has begun repairs on a section of the wastewater main on Severo Ochoa Avenue. This is an urgent project because, as explained by the Councillor for the Water Cycle, José Ramón González de Zárate, "the obsolescence of this section has caused a portion of it to collapse at the intersection with Polonia Street."
The incident caused a service interruption, but the swift intervention of the concessionaire's workers has allowed the sewage service to continue in the area served by the main. A bypass has been set up using pumping to transfer the wastewater while the repairs to the damaged section of the main are carried out.
The councillor noted that the inspection of the pipes "revealed the significant damage to this section, which is one of the pipes that carry wastewater to the treatment plant." The repair work consists of replacing the damaged section, just over 30 meters long, with a 400-millimetre diameter PVC pipe. The work is expected to take approximately two weeks.
González de Zárate explained that thanks to investments made over the years, “we can carry out these types of repairs without affecting service because these pipes are all connected in loops and do not impact service.” The head of the Water Cycle department added that once the repair is finished, “we will take the opportunity to lay new paving, matching that used on the nearby sidewalks, thus continuing the street's renovation.”
These works are being carried out by the concessionaire Veolia, using funds from the Renovation Fund established in the contract.
