Benidorm City Council will increase security in the celebration of major events with the commissioning by the Local Police of an anti-drone system, which "prevents any aircraft piloted by unauthorized remote control overfly gatherings of people , thus avoiding the danger that this practice is associated with, "as explained by the Councilor for Citizen Security, Lorenzo Martínez. A system that will be tested this weekend, in coordination with the National Police, during the celebration of Iberia Festival in Julio Iglesias auditorium of Parque de l'Aigüera

Martínez indicated that "in our interest to improve more and more the security and to increase the protection of the citizenship, Benidorm returns to be at the forefront in the use of the latest technologies, since it will be the first time in Spain that a Local Police operate with a system of these characteristics ".

This last generation system is capable of intercepting the drone at a distance of 2 kilometers, locating the pilot and landing the aircraft in a safe place, safeguarding the integrity of the people.

Martínez clarified that "the system is completely safe because it does not use physical means to knock down drones, but neutralizes the radio and GPS frequencies by landing them in safe areas." In addition, if necessary, the location and identification of the pilot "will allow us to report it by flight prohibited to the aeronautical authorities and those competent in matters of public safety."

In this regard, he recalled that "the law prohibits the use of drones on meetings of people outdoors and between agglomerations of buildings in populated areas."

The incorporation of this anti-drone system has been possible thanks to the collaboration of the company System Drone Spain SRL, distributor for Spain of the firm DroneShield, and which has been responsible for training the agents of the Local Police who will be responsible for managing the system.

The City Council finalizes the Regulation on the use of airspace by the Local Police

Parallel to the incorporation of this system, the Department of Public Security is finishing drafting the regulation that will regulate the use of airspace that the Local Police can make. This document will establish protocols and safety standards that must be met "so that the Local Police drone can fly over the entire municipal area, including the urban area and large concentrations of people."

"This Regulation - has deepened the mayor - will allow us to give many more applications to the drone, beyond the current maritime surveillance."

Martínez stressed that "this regulation will only affect the Local Police, not individuals, who are subject to the rules of Royal Decree 1036/2017, which regulates the civilian use of piloted aircraft by remote control."
