Benidorm incorporates improvements to the stairs that connect Asturias and Oviedo streets in La Cala

Benidorm incorpora mejoras en las escaleras que conectan las calles Asturias y Oviedo en La Cala

Benidorm City Council, through its Department of Urban Scene, has begun implementing a series of improvements to the stairs connecting Asturias and Oviedo streets in La Cala. This project was requested by residents, as these areas are heavily used by both locals and tourists.

For this reason, the "A pie de Calle" campaign visited the site to observe the progress of the work, along with some residents. Leading the group were the Councillor for Citizenship Participation, Ana Pellicer; the Councillor for Urban Scene, Francis Muñoz; the Councillor for Street Cleaning, Luis Navarro; and the Vice Presidents of the Neighbourhood Council, Francisco Martínez and Antonio Zamora.

Muñoz explained that the project will extend to all three staircases connecting the two streets, although work has begun "on the one with the highest pedestrian traffic, as its improvement and maintenance are therefore more urgent." Specifically, the project will consist of installing a handrail "to assist elderly people and those with mobility difficulties, improving their comfort," and repointing the stones and rocks that make up the pavement and steps, "in addition to enhancing the urban landscape."

The work, being carried out by the Municipal Technical Services, will be completed before Easter and will also include the staircase connecting Genaro Navarro and La Cala streets, where a similar action will be undertaken. In this case, Muñoz explained, the work was necessary "due to the deterioration of the materials and the saline environment, given its proximity to the sea."
