Benidorm will host the next 6 and 7 December the Spanish Junior Taekwondo Championship in the 'Olympic Weights' category, a competition that will be held at Palau d'Esports l'Illa, as reported by the councillor today at a press conference , Toni Pérez; the councilor for Sports, Mariló Cebreros; and the president of the Spanish Federation of this sporting discipline, Jesús Castellanos.
As the mayor has detailed, "athletes from 12 Autonomous Communities born between 2003 and 2005 will participate in the competition," to which technicians, judges and referees will be added to add up to 140 people. On Sunday, the battles of the women's categories will be played, between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., and on the 7th it will be the men's turn at the same time.
Toni Pérez has pointed out that this Championship is "an initiation experience" for Benidorm as it is "the first high competition that we are going to organize" in municipal facilities after the start of the health crisis. Facilities "fully adjusted to health regulations" and in which two tapestries will be arranged.
The president of the Spanish Taekwondo Federation, for his part, has stated that it is a "very special" event as it is also "the first" organized by the institution since the Covid-19 crisis began. At this point, he recalled that the health emergency led the Federation "to cancell in March the event that we had planned in Benidorm and which 3,000 people were going to attend."
After thanking the City Council for its collaboration through the Sports Department, Castellanos pointed out that Benidorm is "an excellent city to host this type of event" thanks to its sports facilities.
He also pointed out that "although the Championship will be held behind closed doors, it can be followed live by‘ streaming ’. In addition, "a 'making off' of the test will be recorded, which will be broadcast on Teledeporte", which will mean "important dissemination", as the councillor has remarked.
